CCCB of Washington
Capital City Council of the Blind

About Us

The Capital City Council of the Blind of Washington is a consumer advocacy organization dedicated to the belief that blind and partially sighted individuals can lead productive lives and contribute to society with independence and dignity.  CCCB members work and live in the southwestern Washington State communities of Thurston County and Mason County including the cities of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Shelton.

We seek to gain equality, opportunity and independence for the legally blind and visually impaired not only in employment but also in the right to fully participate in all aspects of our community as exemplified in such legislation as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.  Through the use of advocacy and education we strive to increase public awareness about what blindness is and what it is not.

The Capital City Council of the Blind is an entirely volunteer group.  Among our members, thePhoto #1 of CCCB members at the Washington State Capitol majority of whom are blind or partially sighted, are individuals from all segments of our society.  Our financial support comes from membership dues, fundraising efforts and donations.  We are affiliated with both the Washington Council of the Blind (WCB) and the American Council of the Blind (ACB).  The WCB has chapters throughout Washington State that take turns hosting its annual statewide convention.  The ACB is the nation's leading membership organization of blind and visually impaired people and has an annual nationwide convention.

About Meetings

Our chapter meetings are open to the public and anyone interested in issues concerning the blind is welcome to attend.  You can find dates, times and directions to our meetings on our Calendar of Events page.Photo #2 of CCCB members at the Washington State Capitol

Fundraising Committee
John Guydish, chair
The aim of the Fundraising Committee, along with other committees and the general membership, is raising money to support chapter activities. Fundraising, whether at the program or development level is always done, with the blessing of, and in concert with, the chapter.

Our responsibilities include monitoring existing programs including the Fall Candy Sale, the Wine Project, and Tee-shirt inventory. We are also developing new fundraising programs such as online partnering and selling; communicating with the members and receiving their input regarding our projects' profitability and sustainability; and are at all times focused on contributing to the overall financial health of the CCCB.

Website Committee

  • Maintaining the general appeal of the website by soliciting information, articles and resources of interest to the membership.
